During the past few years, painless endoscopic examinations have been widely performed among hospitals and health screening centers in Taiwan. The provision of sedation for gastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy has played a strong role in people’s willingness to undergo health screening. However, despite the widespread use of sedation and superior patient satisfaction, the first priority during painless endoscopic examinations is still to assure patient safety.
