Due to the excellent stability and dexterity offered by da Vinci system, the robotic surgery is highly encouraged to perform the D3 to D4 lymph node dissection for the treatment of advanced distal rectal cancer with or without concurrent chemoradiation therapy; and the robotic D3 lymph node dissection around the inferior mesenteric artery with preservation of the left colic artery and autonomic nerves for the treatment of rectosigmoid cancer. The surgical procedures will be detailed in the video. We believe the robotic procedure will play an important role in performing surgery for technically difficult rectal cancer, such as in patients with obese, narrow pelvis, or requiring wide lymph node dissection along small vessels, pelvic side-wall, and even the D4 nodes along inferior vena cava, and abdominal aorta. |
