We developed a hybrid technology integrating three different vital signs (ECG, respiration, and Body temperature) into a patch. The patch can be easily placed on the chest with 3 disposable electrodes for long-term continuously monitoring. The carefully designed systems with Bluetooth Low Energy module can achieve 72 hours non-stop, stand-alone recording within only 25 grams including battery. The ECG signal between electrodes and impedance changes during recording are extracted and processed by MCU with an embedded program which detects and removes the motion artifact of the derived signals to provide real-time and reliable RR interval and respiratory rate. We combined two state-of-art techniques, the oscillometric blood pressure measurement and pulse oximetry with finger photoplethysmogram, into a small, light-weight and fashionable wrist-worn device. The identity design of this device tries to eliminate the discomfort of long-term usage. The device is worn on the radial side of wrist and the width of device will not exceed the length of normal radial side of wrist to avoid physical damages. The integrated flexible strip with the emitter and detector can be attached to the finger easily without causing much disturbance of finger movements while maintaining a high accuracy of the oximetry. In addition, an accelerometer is built in to ensure the accurate BP and SpO2 readings. An embedded sophisticated algorithm incorporates all real-time data to derive BP and SpO2 readings. After being wirelessly transmitted to our mobile device, the information of all vital sign signals (including ECG, respiratory, and temperature signals) is integrated by a multi-parameters fusion technology on mobile device which can provide the best reliability of the measurements during long-term monitoring. The equipment has been developed for the competition sponsored by Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE foundation, and we are selected as the seven finalist teams.
