¡@¡@Hypertension is a well-recognized risk factor for micro- and macrovascular diseases in patients with diabetes. Besides glucose control, blood pressure control is important in reducing the diabetic complications. Clinical guidelines for managing hypertension recommend a blood pressure goal of less than 130/80 mmHg in patients with diabetes mellitus. The recently published 2018 European Society of Cardiology (ESC)/European Society of Hypertension (ESH) Guidelines for the Management of Arterial Hypertension also recommend < 130 mmHg as the target for diabetic patients. However, because the J- or U-shaped curve appear between blood pressure and cardiovascular outcome, a lower blood pressure might carry higher risk. Therefore, the new ESC/ESH guideline does not recommend to lower the blood pressure to lower than 120/70 mmHg. The talk will make an overview of the scientific evidence regarding the blood pressure control in diabetic patients and discuss about the recommendations from the new European and American guidelines. |
