Atrial fibrillation has been a substantial disease burden globally, and the epidemiological evidence for the pathogenesis and consequence of atrial fibrillation has been provided for clinical care and public health.  In addition, the novel treatment modalities, including pharmacological and interventional approach, have much improved the stroke prevention and prognosis of atrial fibrillation.  However, several issues needed to be clarified in the current era: First, the evidence-based screening of atrial fibrillation among elderly population (>=65 years), using systematic screening or opportunistic screening, was arguable.  Second, the comparative effectiveness analysis to evaluate the cost effectiveness of the screening modalities was still controversial.  Third, the commercially oriented wearable devices for atrial fibrillation, such as Apple Watch, has been advocated for the tool for atrial fibrillation screening, with intriguing evidence.  Therefore, I would like to review the current data and related regulation in Taiwan for the perspective of the application of this novel modality as the screening in Taiwan.
